Designer

At Primitive Labs our mission is to make human behavior a first-class primitive of software development.

You will design the product, brand, and web experiences that people use to understand Primitive Labs. Much of the work involves making complex agent behavior and evidence clear without flattening what makes it useful. You will work directly with the founders and engineers, take ideas from rough concepts to shipped work, and help set the standard for how the company looks and feels.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end product flows for creating personas, running journeys, reviewing evidence, and acting on findings.
• Turn complex models, system states, and data into interfaces that customers can understand and use with confidence.
• Build and maintain coherent visual and interaction systems across the product, marketing site, and launch materials.
• Prototype interaction, motion, and responsive behavior at the fidelity needed to make strong product decisions.
• Work closely with engineers through implementation, review the built experience, and refine details before release.
• Talk with customers, study how they work, and translate what you learn into product and design decisions.

Qualifications

• A portfolio that shows exceptional product and visual design craft, with clear reasoning behind the work.
• Strong interaction design skills across complex workflows, information architecture, states, and edge cases.
• Command of typography, layout, color, composition, iconography, and responsive web design.
• Ability to make high-fidelity prototypes that communicate interaction, motion, and responsive behavior.
• Experience designing data-rich or technical products without making them feel dense or generic.
• Ability to work directly with engineers and understand the constraints of HTML, CSS, and modern front-end systems.
• A high bar for accessibility, usability, consistency, and the details that separate a good interface from a great one.
• Comfort moving between product surfaces and brand expression while keeping one coherent design language.
• Operate with high autonomy: identify what needs to exist, make the case for it, and carry it through to release.
